Fractal Of The Month: Anticipating Spring

Winters in Wyoming are long and can stretch into spring, making it seem like spring may never come. I approached the computer with spring in my heart, although the weather outside was anything but.
Normally, I start my works in black and white and add color later, depending on my mood and the feel of the piece. However, this time, I knew I wanted something in pastels. Easter egg colors, if you will. Something flowery, but not overtly feminine. I added movement to the image through texture. To mirror the struggle of rebirth. In the early spring months, flowers here emerge and then die. It is a battle, survival of the strongest, to survive. The organics in this image are wishing for springtime as much as me!
This image is a 10×8 limited edition, in a run of 50. My print lab can print on bamboo, it was a relatively new substrate at the time. YES! Renewable, green art! The colors are soft, yet vibrant on this substrate with an almost velvety texture to the paper. It feels good doing my part, creating eco-friendly art!
